Back-Up Systems

The Cedars has several built in features to help in the case of emergencies (or a zombie apocalypse). There is a generator, a fire hose, and redundant heating options.

Generator - The generator is a gas powered Wallenstein 11-6000 AE with a Honda engine. It is wired directly into Top House and provides emergency power to the fridge, the water system, and an outlet for general use. Each year we test its function to ensure it won’t fail us!

Fire Hose - The fire hose is a gas powered pump with approximately 300 feet of hose, sufficient to reach almost any point on the property. It lives in front of boat house, ready to draw water from the lake.

Redundant Heating Systems - Top House and the four full service cottages have a variety of ways to provide heat. This ensure that if one system fails, or faces shortages or exorbitant costs, there another system available. Top House can be heated with a forced air propane furnace (located in the crawl space under the house) or by the (WETT certified) wood burning stove in the living room. Thistledown has a heat pump that provides both hot and cold air, as well as electric baseboards throughout. Cookhouse is heated by a (WETT certified) wood stove. Deep Shade is heated by a forced air oil furnace. And Birds is heated by plug in radiators. On the property are also two kerosene heaters and a outdoor propane space heater.

Each full service cottage has its own hot water heater.
